HAIC Committees Print E-mail

The heart of the Harbor Association of Industry and Commerce committees monitor legislation, provide a forum for industrial and government speakers to address key issues, write resolutions and provide oral testimony of support or opposition which reflect the HAIC's overall position.

Development:
Members support the approval of the Port EIR's and other key harbor area land use initiatives and support the Port technology-based economic development initiatives.

Education/Scholarship:
Members evaluate education/scholarship-related funding requests made to the HAIC.

Governmental Affairs
Members review regulations and legislation affecting the business community, specifically in the South Bay. Of particular interest are air quality, water-borne commerce, land use and port issues. This committee is concerned with pending legislation at the Federal, State and local level that may affect the needs of HAIC members.

Marketing and Communications
Responsible for developing HAIC's marketing and communications vehicles: membership brochures, monthly newsletter, website, media kits, press releases, public service announcements and position papers.

Programs
Monthly meetings featuring prestigious speakers on issues having a bearing on the economic health and well-being of the South Bay. This committee endeavors to find a diverse group of speakers representing many topics and issues of interest to our members.

Membership
The key to the strength of any organization is in its members. We are looking for companies and individuals who are seeking to make a difference in the processes that affect their ability to compete. If you are such a company, or person, we invite you to investigate the value we can add as a common voice in the interest of seeing all Harbor area businesses flourish.

Special Events
This committee works on annual events ranging from harbor cruises for HAIC members and their friends, a Harbor Cup Challenge golf tournament, annual officers and directors installation dinner, the "Salute to Industry" awards banquet and the yearly Sacramento visitation to meet with our legislators.
